The Big J loves Mexican food. Seriously, after family & his computer, I would have to say Mexican food is his next big love. Only problem is, most of it is incredibly high in sodium, which we try and avoid in our house. Did you know that a low salt taco seasoning still contains over 3000mg of salt per 100 grams? That’s huge! The Heart Foundation recommends people on a low sodium diet, choose foods with a sodium level of 120mg/100g or less. This means all of those pre-packaged meals are a no-go in our house, which is why I make my own Homemade Taco Seasoning.
Initially making Mexican food from scratch was a bit of a challenge for me, but now I’ve figured out a few basic recipes that make everything else come together. My Homemade Taco Seasoning really is my go-to Mexican spice. Mine is a bit heavy in the chilli, but it’s Mexican so who cares? Okay, if you aren’t a huge chilli fan, just reduce or skip the chilli in this recipe.
And you know what? I had a lot of fun photographing the Homemade Taco Seasoning too. Can you tell?
